Residing on Rikers Island

IMF director general Dominique Strauss-Kahn stands before judge Melissa Jackson in Manhattan Criminal Court.

If the name of the IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn's current home rings a bell with you, chances are you've heard it on the TV or radio.

Rikers Island is best known as the home of suspects pending trial or convicts serving short sentences and as such it features regularly in New York-based police dramas such as NBC's "Law and Order." It even has its own page on the show's wiki. In many ways Strauss-Kahn's arrest could be straight out of an episode of "Law and Order: SVU," the strand of the show that portrays detectives investigating "sexually based offenses". Sadly, this is real life.

It was real too for rapper Lil' Wayne when he did time on Rikers Island in 2010 on a gun charge. His album "I Am Not A Human Being" was released while he was in solitary confinement, and he even recorded a verse over the phone for the Drake/Jay-Z single "Light Up." The "Rikers Remix" did the rounds online.

Rikers Island, where IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn is being held.

Lil' Wayne is just one of many artists to have referenced Rikers Island in their lyrics. Recent Eminem/D12 collaboration "Going Crazy" describes a "tour bus look like Rikers Island." Meanwhile, if Kool G. Rap's lyrics are anything to go by, Dominique Strauss-Kahn may have a rough time in store at the jail:

"...you might have been robbin', you might have been whylin'/ But you won't be smilin' on Rikers island. / Just to hear the name it makes your spine tingle/ This is a jungle where the murderers mingle/ This ain't a place that's crowded but there's room for you/ Whether you're white or you're black, you'll be black and blue..."

Dominique Strauss-Kahn is accused of sexual abuse and rape, and is currently residing in one of Rikers Island's 3.35 x 4 meter cells. On Tuesday we heard that the man whom many refer to as DSK was placed on suicide watch at Rikers Island, but that is a common procedure in high-profile cases. Strauss-Kahn is expected to be left largely alone between now and his next appearance in court on Friday.

CNN Legal Analyst Sunny Hostin says a second application for bail will be the top priority. "There is no question that this Friday the defense will reapply for bail," he told CNN's Anderson Cooper 360. "They're going to try to come up with a situation that is palatable for the prosecution and the court so that he is no longer being held at Rikers Island. That may include $1 million to $2 million bail, or an ankle monitoring bracelet."

As the Grand Jury convenes, the world will be watching.

It is impossible to discover a healthy 32 year old African woman that could not out run or out fight a 62 year old Jewish man. But in the world of fantasy that 62 year old Jewish mans bones become young again, and he can out run and out fight the healthy African woman. The jury in the Strauss-Kahn case will compare the wrinkled old Jew to the young and healthy looking African woman and decide who is the one with the overpowering physical strength.

Morris Wise–That comment is idiotic. What does Jewish and African have to do with anything, except to show your racist stereotyping? The age thing also has little to nothing to do with agility, speed, or conditions at the scene. Your comment shows that you haven't read the facts in several other ways, but are relying on prejudicial ideas conjured in your own head. The comment shows that you hate this woman and perhaps all women, or at least distrust them intensely. The facts are that she did outrun him twice, once to get caught again and the second time she got free. In between he attacked her and entrapped her. Read the report. She wasn't escaping from him on an open football field, but behind a door he blocked.

It's the same old story. Man sexually attacks woman. Only thing, the woman's integrity is immediately attacked. It is suddenly all of her fault. Nonsense. It always sounds as if the man had nothing to do with this. What about the two previous attacks this so called gentleman carried out. According to one story, it was not reported. This must be his approval to attack again.

ONE HAS TO LOOK WHO BENEFITED IN THIS CRIME. WHO HAD A MOTIVE. TENDER TRAPS HAVE BEEN USED FOR YEARS. ONLY A MORON WOULD ACT IN SUCH A STUPID WAY. DSK WAS FAR FROM A MORON.

Either he is what everyone is despite being IMF Chief ie with desires OR a target for setup. It boils down to this.

That old man has one foot in the grave. There is no way that he overpowered her and "put it to her". It's a setup. He has been framed. His job is gone and now they want to crucify him. Really sad.

The US has to have inflation or there won't be glabol liquidity: we are moving to the sdr/system; the 3% rule will see fruition come in the form of the new reserve system. There is no other alternative (unless GATA has some ideedee?)Where did the 3% ruling for debt/gdp come from? It is being applied in the Eurozone and US: where else? Is this a glabol regulation?

Why not say straight away that he was framed because some people want him out for some power reasons, being a socialist and left wing, in the position he's in must be disturbing to all the establishment. Medias dont even mention it which is at the core of the whole story.
